Throwing Sumpin’ in Mansfield

By Nicole Tull

The Krewe of Demeter rolled through Mansfield Saturday evening. The cold weather gave the towns folk a reprieve long enough to enjoy the parade.

The parade Grand Marshal was Miss DeSoto Parish Mardi Gras Queen, Sydney Locke.

City of Mansfield had many representatives. Police Chief Annette Blue, Assistant Chief Billy Locke, and Mayor John Mayweather were in the lineup. Candidates for several offices were also present. Thomas Jones for Mayor of Mansfield and Erin Leigh Waddell Garrett for Appeal Judge had fun floats with lots of throws.

Logansport’s Krewe of Aquarius, Minden’s Krewe of Akewa and DeSoto Parish Sheriff’s Office had prominent floats riding ahead of the Krewe of Demeter’s bright float.

Children beckoning for throws were not disappointed with the beads, doubloons, plush toys, balls, hula hoops, candy, cups, and even favorite snacks being tossed into the crowd.

Many of these floats and others will be featured again in upcoming parades in Logansport and Grand Cane. Be sure to support them with your attendance.
