Jones Gains Lopsided Victory

Voters Saturday elected Thomas Jones to be the next Mayor of Mansfield.  Jones racked up 60% of the votes to end the tenure of John Mayweather, Sr.

A victorious Jones issued this statement:

“Good Morning Citizens of Mansfield,

“Let me first say “God is GREAT!!” A grand thank you to my wife, family, friends and supporters for standing with me throughout this journey. Our quest for Mayor of Mansfield started over four years ago. Now, here we are ready, willing and able to proceed with the vision of a clean, vibrant and flourishing community.

“Secondly, hats off to “TEAM JONES”. This DREAM TEAM didn’t cut any corners. They all knew their perspective roles and they kept focus until the trumpet sounded.

“Finally, we appreciate everyone who went out to the polls and voted. I have always believed that the power rests within those who cast their vote. The people in Mansfield has spoken. CHANGE HAS COME!!. God’s will is done.”

Over half of the registered voters in Mansfield turned out to change Mayors.  Police Jury member Thomas Jones polled 60% of the votes to upset Mayor John Mayweather, Sr.

Here is the unofficial vote tally:

Thomas Jones with 60% of votes cast or 920 votes.

John Mayweather, Sr. with 40% of votes cast or 625 votes.

The voter turnout was 51.3%.
