After a Lightning delay Thursday night entertained the fans in Griffin Stadium during warm ups and led to a Postponement, the Airline Vikings and home standing North DeSoto Griffins got the 2022 Season underway under the lights on Saturday Night.
The delay in start didn’t affect the Griffins as they opened the season with a 46-21 drumming of the 5A Vikings.
After watching the griffins on Saturday night, it’s hard to determine which side of the ball shouldered the success, as the defense caused eight turnovers on the evening and the offense ran up 477 yards of total offense on the evening.
Early in the first quarter, both teams shook off the dust of waiting an extra day until midway through the first when Brian Banks scored his first touchdown from 8 yards out. Airline answered just two minutes later with a Daxton Chavez touchdown reception.
In the second quarter the ND defense locked down the Airline offense and along with a blocked punt allowed the Griffins to score 19 unanswered points with two big Landon Falls touchdown receptions and Luke Delafield touchdown run. North Desoto headed into half time with a 26-7 lead.
Chavez and the VIkings struck first in the 2nd Half after the ensuing drive by the griffins stalled out. Sophomore Ben Taylor in his first start of his career was swarmed by the Griffins causing 8 turnovers and keeping the speedy Vikings Offense off the field. The Griffin Offense exploded once again for 3 more unanswered touchdowns to put the game away after two more Luke Delafield touchdown passes to Sam Odom and Cole Cory sandwiched around a backbreaking 68 yard scamper by Brian Banks, his second of the night.
The Griffins offense ended the night running the clock out and Stonewall showed up in full force to celebrate the Griffins beginning the season 1-0 for the first time in 2 years.
North DeSoto will take their show on the Road this Friday as they head across the state line to face the Roughriders of Center, Texas at 7:30 pm.
