Riverfront Egg Hunt a Big Hit

By Nicole Tull

Eggs-travaganza on the Sabine was a success once again. Hundreds of children and parents came to Logansport for the Easter celebration. After several days of heavy rain in the area there was concern for the ground. Wind and warm weather dried the ground to helped make this event perfect.

The Easter bunny and a large baby chick were available for pictures. Children could play games to win prizes and get their face painted. DeSoto Fire District 1 brought the big firetruck and let the kids see how it works up close and personal. Concessions were also a big hit.

As the clock neared 1:00 pm, the kids and parents were given instructions for safe keeping until the Sheriff’s helicopter had made its pass to drop the eggs. Children cheered as each bag of eggs plopped to the earth. Once given the go-ahead, tiny legs raced toward the colored eggs to be collected in the baskets.

Several organizations are to thank for such a wonderful community gathering. The Logansport Chamber of Commerce, FBC Logansport’s youth, DeSoto Parish Sheriff’s Office, DeSoto Fire District 1, Family Dollar, Whataburger, River City Fest for the concessions, and countless volunteers.
