DPPJ updates debris removal timeline

DeSoto Parish Police Jury Parish Administrator Michael Norton shared the following message on the DPPJ Facebook page.

Initially I reported that the debris removal program was set to begin this week on July 8, 2024, regrettably it did not.

The DeSoto Parish Police Jury has been working diligently to successfully navigate the required legal process to hire a debris removal contractor. RFP‘s (requests for proposals) are due this Friday July 12, 2024, and will be voted on by the jury Monday July 15, 2024. Once we have secured this debris removal contract, the Desoto Parish Police Jury will continue to coordinate between all parties to set a date for debris removal. This has been made more complicated by the recent storms our Parish has suffered.

I am thankful for the local participation we have in this parish. It seems when we have a catastrophe, seemingly more and more common these days, the community of Desoto Parish comes together to lift one another up. We are blessed to have the first responders we have in this community.

I would like to thank the DeSoto Parish Sheriff’s Office, all the local fire departments, the EMS personnel, the Desoto Parish community, and my staff here at the Desoto Parish Police Jury for all their hard work. I would also ask the community to be a little more patient with this process so I am able to secure a debris removal contract. As soon as I have more information to report, I promise to let you all know. May the Lord continue to keep you all safe.
