KEATCHIE, La. — Young rodeo competitors will have an opportunity to showcase their skills during the Central Christian Academy Youth Rodeo on Thursday, Aug. 13, at Circle T Ranch in Keatchie.
Books will open at 5 p.m., with competition beginning at 6 p.m. at Circle T Ranch, located at 11654 Highway 5 in Keatchie.
The youth rodeo will feature a variety of events for different ages and skill levels, including goat ribbon pull, stick horse racing, leadline barrels and poles, sheep riding, barrels, poles, calf scramble, breakaway roping and team roping.
Goat ribbon pull and stick horse racing will be open to children ages 7 and younger with a $10 entry fee. Leadline barrels and poles will also have a $10 entry fee. Sheep riding, limited to participants weighing less than 65 pounds, will cost $20.
Barrels and poles will include age divisions of 0-6, 7-9, 10-13 and 14-18, with a $20 entry fee. The calf scramble will be free and open to all ages.
Breakaway roping will include divisions for ages 12 and younger and ages 13-18, with a $30 entry fee. Team roping will be open to competitors ages 18 and younger and will cost $30 per entry, per end.
Organizers have announced $100 in added money for each age group in barrels and $100 in added money for each age group in breakaway roping. Team roping will feature $250 in added money.
Buckles will be awarded to event winners in qualifying age groups for barrels, poles, breakaway and team roping. Prize bags will be presented for leadline and events for children ages 7 and younger.
The top 10 sheep riders from Thursday night will advance, with five riding during Friday night’s rodeo performance and five competing Saturday night. A buckle will be awarded to the winner each night.
Competitors will be grouped by their age as of Jan. 1, 2026. Participants may also enter both team roping and breakaway roping.
