DeSoto Parish Schools is recognizing Willa Smith, Supervisor of Student Learning, following her selection as a 2026-2027 English Learner Fellow by the Louisiana Department of Education.

The fellowship will provide Smith with an opportunity to collaborate with educators and leaders from across Louisiana while strengthening practices designed to support English Learners.

According to DeSoto Parish Schools, Smith will also be able to bring knowledge gained through the fellowship back to local schools and classrooms to help support student learning and success.

District officials said the selection reflects Smith’s commitment to ensuring students have access to meaningful learning opportunities and the support they need to succeed.

“We are proud to see Ms. Smith representing DeSoto Parish Schools at the state level and continuing to lead with a focus on student success,” the district stated.
