The Mansfield Police Department issued a community safety reminder regarding the use of 4-wheelers on city streets and the potential dangers associated with toy guns.
According to the department, 4-wheelers are not permitted on any street within the city limits of Mansfield, and citations can be issued to those found in violation.
Police said 4-wheelers operated in violation of city ordinances may also be towed and impounded. The registered owner or operator will be responsible for towing, impound, storage and any other applicable fees associated with removing and recovering the vehicle.
The department is asking residents to refrain from operating 4-wheelers on city streets.
Police also urged parents, guardians and residents to use extreme caution with Nerf guns and other toy guns, particularly near or inside local businesses. Although the items may be toys, the department noted that others may not be able to distinguish them from actual firearms, potentially creating a dangerous situation.
According to police, actions involving toy guns that cause fear, alarm, threats or disturbances could result in serious consequences, including possible criminal charges.
“Let’s work together to keep Mansfield safe,” the department stated. “Your cooperation and commitment to the safety of our community are greatly appreciated!”
