MANSFIELD, La. — Young students at Prime Time Head Start in Mansfield recently received an up-close look at the work of local first responders as part of the school’s Community Helpers Week.

Deputies with the DeSoto Parish Sheriff’s Office joined personnel from DeSoto Fire District #8, the Mansfield Fire Department and Mansfield Police Department for the event. Several other agencies also participated throughout the morning.

Students had an opportunity to explore fire trucks, the Sheriff’s Office Command Center and other emergency response equipment while learning more about the roles first responders play in their community.

The visit also included time in the classroom, where deputies and firefighters traded emergency equipment for storybooks and read with the children.

The DeSoto Parish Sheriff’s Office thanked Prime Time Head Start for inviting local first responders to participate in the week’s activities and providing them an opportunity to interact with some of the community’s youngest residents.
