From the DeSoto Parish Sheriff’s Office
Shortly after 5:00pm on Monday, November 1, 2021, DeSoto Parish 911 received a call from an unknown caller stating they were having trouble breathing. Shortly thereafter, EMS and Deputies arrived on scene to discover that it was Corporal Latoya Dedmond who had suffered a medical emergency. At the time, Cpl. Dedmond was sitting in her patrol unit working security detail in the area of Highway 5. EMS and Deputies did everything they could on scene and on the way to the hospital, however, Cpl. Dedmond tragically lost her life to this unforeseen medical emergency. The news was first communicated to Cpl. Dedmond’s family, and to our entire department shortly thereafter. At the appropriate time, we shared this news with the public, via social media, around 9:00 pm Monday night.
Having spent nearly 12 years as a Deputy Sheriff in Corrections for the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office, Cpl. Latoya Dedmond began her career with the DeSoto Parish Sheriff’s Office on March 16, 2019. She was promoted to Corporal on July 06, 2020 due to her dedication and great work ethic. Cpl. Latoya Dedmond was favored by her co-workers and many inmates for her kind demeanor and smile. She was just 43 years old. We thank everyone for the outpouring of love and support that you have shown thus far, and we ask that you continue to keep Cpl. Dedmond’s family, friends, and co-workers in your thoughts and prayers.
