The Mansfield Rotary Club held their first regularly scheduled meeting of the new year on January 5th at the Mansfield Female College Museum. Club Treasurer, Terri Byrd, presented a thank you letter from the DeSoto Parish Animal Shelter for the donation our club made to them. We in turn are grateful for the services they provide for our towns and parish.
Byrd also reported that the Club’s main fundraiser will again be a Clay Pigeon Shoot at the Shreveport Gun Club on May the 14th with another raffle for a personalized fire pit. More information will be forthcoming on how to participate in these two.
Our guest was DeSoto Parish Sheriff Investigator, Mike Armstrong, who is the new Commander of the American Legion Post of Logansport. That post first started in 1927 and had recently gone dormant but is being rejuvenated. Mike told us of collaborating with Mansfield’s V.F.W. post and upcoming fundraisers so that they can again become active in community and school affairs.
Armstrong said, “Hopefully the Legion’s scholarship awards for our Parish’s outstanding students can begin again when things pick up.”
The Mansfield Rotary Club, through an anonymous donor, presented a check to Post Commander, Mike Armstrong. Shown pictured L to R are Dudley Glenn, Rotary President, Legion Commander Mike Armstrong, and Teri Byrd, Rotary Treasurer.
