More Candidates Qualify for Local Races

On the second day of qualifying, a third candidate jumped into the District 4 School Board race and second candidates joined the races for District 6 and 7.  Additional folks qualified in the race for Aldermen of Grand Cane and Councilmen of Keachi.

Here are how the School Board races are shaping up.  Incumbent board members have no challengers so far in District 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 10, and 11.  In District 4, Donnie Dufour has two challengers.  They are Xavier Foster and Robert Mitchell.  In the race for District 6, Brian LaFleur qualified Thursday to challenge Coday Johnston.  Sonja Smith Polley filed Thursday for District 7 in opposition to incumbent Dale Morvan.  Tommy Craig has not filed for re-election in District 9 and Ronnie Morris, Sr. qualified for that post.

Incumbent Mayors of Keachi and Grand Cane qualified and so far have no challengers.  Three Aldermen will be elected in Grand Cane.  So far Ed Campbell, Clayton Davis, and Rhonda Meek have qualified for those seats.

Four candidates have qualified for the five seats on the Keachi Town Council.  They are Jeanette Pons Avila, William Chad Burford, Michael Gresham, and Patty Russell.

As of Thursday, no candidates had qualified for the two Aldermen seats in Stanley and the 2 Council Member seats at Longstreet.

Qualifying runs through the close of business Friday.  Candidates qualify at the DeSoto Clerk of Court’s office.
