Friday marked the initial victory for Coach Darrel Barbay and his Wolverines. Mansfield beat Jonesboro – Hodge by a final score of 20 – 12.
All three of Mansfield’s scores were tallied by Dekeldrick Thomas on QB runs. The final touchdown was followed by a two point conversion by TJ Peguese. TJ finished the night with 16 rushes for 92 yards. Thomas contributed 47 yards on the ground to go with his 3 TDs. Rykeelan Van Zandt contributed 38 yards on 8 carries and was the lead blocker for most of TJ’s carries.
On defense, Jeremiah Eckels and Fezell Montgomery led a stingy group of defenders. They held Jonesboro to just two touchdowns and were able to stop both conversions. Eckels finished the game with 7 tackles, 2 for a loss, a caused fumble and an interception. Montgomery finished with 8 tackles with 2 stops behind the line of scrimmage.
