FBC Honorarium for Raymond Powell

On Sunday, May 28, 2023 The First Baptist Church of Mansfield, La. honored Raymond Powell for his 74 years of service as a Deacon of that church.  There were two pews full with children and their spouses, grandchildren and great grands.  Head Deacon Ted Brasher presented the award.

After the Honors and Sermon by Brother Chad Hardbarger the congregation retired to the Fellowship Hall for a catfish dinner with all the trimmings.  Several friends and fellow Deacons spoke about their admiration of and inspiration from Mr. Powell.

Powell told the gathering that, “There are no books on growing old, especially when you reach 98 years old.”   But some heartfelt advice he’s learned is, “Fill a treasure chest with good memories and know that the true treasure is good friends.”  Put God first and family second but also, “Put a little money aside, too!”

On a personal note, this writer looks upon Mr. Powell with great appreciation and considers him to be his mentor and guide since returning home.  His positive outlook on life and constant good humor are always appreciated!
