In the past 14 days 982 calls for service came into the Desoto Parish Sheriff’s Office. The department handles a wide range of calls each week. During this two-week period traffic stops, deputy-initiated calls, and road assistance dominated the stats. 586 calls were deputy initiated, 32 were traffic accidents, and 28 were reckless operation calls.
In a different facet of deputy duties, 19 calls were investigated for livestock/horses at large, 12 dogs running loose, and 2 dog bites. These duties of parish deputies are rarely discussed but are much appreciated by the community at-large.
Another routine but seldom mentioned help from deputies is the assistance to the public and elderly for welfare checks and medical needs. 11 welfare checks, 11 civil complaints, 9 medical alarms/calls, 3 stalking,3 coroner’s commitments and 6 suspicious vehicle calls were logged.
