With several consecutive days of extreme heat expected, the National Weather Service urges residents to take precautions to avoid heat-related illnesses.
Safety recommendations include:
Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water, even if you do not feel thirsty.
Limit strenuous outdoor activities during the hottest afternoon hours.
Take frequent breaks in air-conditioned buildings or shaded areas.
Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing and use sunscreen when outdoors.
Check on elderly relatives, neighbors, and others who may be vulnerable to extreme heat.
Never leave children or pets unattended inside a parked vehicle, where temperatures can become life-threatening within minutes.
With no significant cooling trend in sight, residents should be prepared for dangerous heat conditions to continue through the beginning of next week.
