Parish Government issues burn ban due to extreme heat and dry conditions

DESOTO PARISH — A burn ban is now in effect across DeSoto Parish following a decision by parish officials in response to ongoing extreme heat and dry weather conditions.

According to the DeSoto Parish Police Jury, Parish Administrator Michael Norton announced that, after consulting with local fire chiefs and the Police Jury president, the burn ban became effective Monday, July 27, 2026.

Officials said the ban was implemented because of the combination of extreme dry conditions and extreme heat, which increase the risk of wildfires.

The DeSoto Parish Police Jury said local fire chiefs and parish officials will continue monitoring weather conditions and will reassess the burn ban once conditions improve.

Residents are encouraged to comply with the burn ban until further notice. Parish officials said additional updates will be provided as conditions change.
