DESOTO PARISH, La. — Cooling stations have opened at multiple locations across DeSoto Parish as the area prepares for dangerously high temperatures in the coming days.

According to the DeSoto Parish Sheriff’s Office, the high temperatures can quickly lead to heat-related illnesses, particularly among the elderly, young children and those who work or spend extended periods outdoors.

Cooling stations will be available daily from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the following locations:

DeSoto Parish Sheriff’s Office Main Office – Mansfield

DeSoto Parish Sheriff’s Office Logansport Substation

DeSoto Parish Sheriff’s Office Stonewall Substation

Fire District 1 Central Office – Marshall Road

Fire District 3 – Stonewall

Fire District 5 – Stanley, Highway 84

Fire District 8 Central Office – Highway 175

Fire District 9 – Frierson

Clara Springs Baptist Encampment – 4420 Highway 177

The cooling stations will remain open each day until temperatures return to safer levels.

The Sheriff’s Office is also encouraging residents to check on elderly neighbors, family members and others who may be particularly vulnerable during the extreme heat.

Anyone who needs assistance because of the heat, including transportation to a cooling station or help with another heat-related concern, is encouraged to contact the DeSoto Parish Sheriff’s Office. Those needing assistance outside the cooling stations’ operating hours may also contact the department for help determining the safest course of action.

Residents are encouraged to stay hydrated, limit outdoor activities when possible and never leave children or pets unattended in vehicles.
