Mansfield residents and other members of the public will have an opportunity Thursday to review and provide feedback on a new court-ordered redistricting plan for the DeSoto Parish Police Jury.
The Town Hall meeting will be held at 5 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 24, at Mansfield City Hall, 705 Polk Street.
According to a public notice issued by the City of Mansfield, a federal court ordered the DeSoto Parish Police Jury to establish a new redistricting plan for its Police Jury districts. The court appointed a special master to develop the plan, which the city said was scheduled to be made public Tuesday, Sept. 22.
Federal court records confirm that the redistricting matter stems from Means v. DeSoto Parish Police Jury, a case filed in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Louisiana. Court records show the case entered a remedial phase this summer and included proceedings involving the selection of a special master.
During Thursday’s meeting, a detailed report and maps showing the proposed district boundaries will be presented for review.
The City of Mansfield is inviting residents to attend the meeting and provide feedback on how the new redistricting plan could affect the community.
The meeting is open to the public.
