DeSoto Parish residents are being reminded that a parishwide burn ban remains in effect as dry conditions continue to create an increased risk of wildfires.

The DeSoto Parish Sheriff’s Office said Sunday, Sept. 21, that it confirmed with the DeSoto Parish Police Jury that the burn ban remains active.

Residents are being asked to comply with all restrictions on outdoor burning until parish officials formally lift the ban.

“Dry conditions can increase the risk of wildfires, and even a small fire can quickly become difficult to control,” DeSoto Parish Administrator Michael Norton said. “We ask everyone to exercise caution and refrain from any prohibited outdoor burning during this time.”

Norton said the Police Jury will notify the public when conditions have improved enough for the burn ban to be officially lifted.

“We appreciate the cooperation of all DeSoto Parish residents in helping protect our communities, property, and first responders,” Norton said.

Residents can also monitor the current burn ban status through the DeSoto Sheriff App by selecting the “Burn Ban” option. DPSO said the information is updated when the Sheriff’s Office receives notification from the Police Jury.

The burn ban will remain in effect until further notice.
